Recording from live inputs (cassette, mic, Line Input) on The Digital DJ Music System

Note: These are only suggested steps.

  • Recording from the sound card line input. Using The Digital DJ Music System.
    • Software Needed:
      • There are many software packages available that allow you to record from the line in port on most sound cards. We will only cover the use of the Digital DJ Music System recorder module. For advanced recording and editing, you can use tools like GoldWave available at our download page.
    • Hardware needed:
      • A PC to do the recording "Of Course" and a sound card with a "LINE IN" or "AUX" input.
      • A live source. This can be audio from a cassette player, a stereo system, VCR, etc... WARNING: Most sound card audio inputs will only accept PRE-AMP type audio. Examples are: Line Out Jacks on a cassette deck, Stereo receiver system, Mixer board etc...
      • An Adapter Cable: In most cases, you will need a (stereo RCA type male connector) to (Stereo Headphone Jack type male plug 1/8" ) adapter cable. This cable is available at almost any department store, computer store or audio shop.
    • Instructions:
      • Attach an adaptor cable to the playback device. (Cassette Deck etc...)
      • Attach the other end of the adaptor cable to the "LINE IN" or "AUX" input on the sound card of your PC.
      •  Using The Digital DJ Music System software: (Follow the free download instructions for this software if you don't have it. Make sure that you install the Windows Media Tools before recording.
        • Start The Digital DJ Music System Software.
        • Press (F8) or select "File" then "Live Recorder"

  • Select the desired format (ASF) or (MP3).

  • Select the recording rate (28.8K, 56K etc...) Recoding begins (See Below)

    • Press the volume control button. Your system mixer should pop up.

    • Select "File" and "Properties" and pick "Recording" (See below)

    • Adjust the volume so that it just peaks in the yellow.

  • Close the recording control mixer if you wish and wait till your recording is complete.

  • Press the "Stop Recording" button.

    • A message box will appear asking you to save your new file. (Below)

    • Enter the Title and Artist as prompted by the automatic wizard.

    • Select the folder where you want to save the file. (Below)

  • After saving the file, you will be prompted to auto add the selection to the Digital DJ Music System Database list if you wish.

  • If only saving the file for later use, remember the folder and name of your file so that you can send it to the web etc... at a later time.

  • NOTE1: MP3 and ASF files are usually small enough to send via email. Keep in mind, most ISP's do not allow files over 1 to 2MB so, check the size before doing this.

  • NOTE2: Smaller recording bandwidth (Ex: 28.8K is the lowest) will allow for smaller files but less quality.

  • NOTE3: Recording Speed Suggestions:

    • 28.8K - Good for voice and web low quality stereo web broadcasts.

    • 56K - STANDARD web quality stereo. Excellent voice and above average music using the ASF format.

    • ISDN - Best web quality but, Not many people can receive this over the web unless they have a cable modem or better. Average quality for playback on a stand alone PC or (INTRANET) network.

    • LAN -  Recommended for LAN, INTRANET and most local PC use. Not generally recommended for INTERNET use.

    • CD QUALITY -  Highest speed. Well, you pay for the quality with disk space but, If you have a lot of hard drive space then go for it.
