Travel Journal - Day 10
Medical Exam and Paperwork
Today started with a trip to receive Taya’s medical exam at the clinic
for adopted children and finished with 2 plus hours of paperwork (there was
a little shopping in between). At the clinic it was somewhat crowed and
challenging with so many families but we all made it through OK. Around 30
families and there newly loved ones. The medical exam was very quick. Taya
first had a general exam, follow by an ear, throat and eye and finished with
her temperature, weight and height. All total took less then 5 minutes, but
with the wait took around 1 hour 30 minutes. She weighed in at a little over
15 lbs with her clothes on. We did not get her height but as you can see on
the pictures she is not real tall (she may take after her mom and grandma).
After the medical exam we did stop at the Friendship Store (Like a
department store with groceries) and picked up some supplies (Coke and
Pringles for Dana, Diet Coke for Amy and Water for all three of us). For all
you Diet soda drinker it a little tough in China, there are not many places
which sell diet soda. I have caught both Amy and Judy drinking my Coke. Our
guide told us the reason is most Chinese are too skinny (its true) to be
drinking diet soda so most drink the regular soda. So far all the stores we
have gone to are government run and have guarantees on items you purchase.
Starting Sunday we will go to some other stores that don’t offer the
guarantee, but you are able to barter the price with them.
This afternoon was spent doing paperwork for Taya’s adoption and for
her visa. Amy spent over 2 hours filling out the remaining paperwork needed
to finalize Taya’s adoption. America has had it’s impact near our hotel
as there is a McDonalds, Starbucks and 7-11 all very close. We also notice
that more of the Chinese people speak chenglish, so communicating is a
little better. A good night from Taya to all of you.
Dustin and Jonah, Good luck at your hockey games we will be thinking
about you. Hope you have some luck hunting with grandpa. Be good and we will
call you soon. They do not have the Xbox 360 in stores here.
