Travel Journal - Day 3
WOW and WOW describes today! We went to the Beijing International Church.
We had to show our passports because Chinese nationals are not allowed in
the services; this is only for foreigners. It was surprisingly “Baptistish”
with modern praise songs, full band, and praise team. We really enjoyed
worshipping with so many different cultures. There were about 500 people!
Unfortunately, it was too dark for pictures and we were at the very back of
the auditorium.
We went to a Jade Market and saw craftsmen carving the Jade. Then we had
lunch and went to the Great Wall. Jason, you described it as being
comparable to seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time, and you were
right. We were only there a couple of hours but we feel like we were able to
see all that we wanted to see. We made it quiet a ways, with Mike and Meri
going further than me and Kara going further than all of us! Look at the
picture of us on the Wall and you will see two “buildings”. We all went
past the first one and Kara went almost to the second one. Again, a family
stopped the girls to take their pictures, only this time, they let Mike and
I in the picture also. I still can’t believe the fascination with the
blond hair.
We ended the day with a Traditional Peking Duck dinner and a Chinese
Acrobat show. The duck was okay and now I can say that I tried it. The show
was spectacular. Pictures weren’t allowed but I snapped one right as the
show started.
We leave at 6:30am for Guangzhou and we will meet Elaine at 2:30! Oh, my
heart flip flops whenever I think about it! The flight is 3 hours so we will
have time to drop our luggage in our hotel and get all the gifts together
for the orphanage and the Nannies. We have a pink blanket, a stuffed animal
from Grandma, and a baby doll to take with us to meet her. Hopefully, this
will help the transition. Lani and another boy that is being adopted by a
family in our group will be put on the bus around 6am with their nannies and
they will drive 7 hours to Guangzhou. So besides being freaked out, they
will also be tired and confused! I am very anxious for that first moment I
see her face to face!
I don’t think I will be able to sleep tonight!!!
Again, more tired but more than happy, the Goff Gang!
