History of the Good Wishes
Quilt
The tradition for our family began with the adoption of our first
daughter, Kya. We adopted Kya from China and making quilts is a popular past
time in the China adoption community. The story is basically that it's a
tradition in China for loved ones to give pieces of material to the newborn
baby and that a quilt, consisting of 100 pieces of fabric, is sewn. Also
known as the Ba Ja Bei (100 Good Wishes). However, I have not yet met a
Chinese person to back up this theory. None-the-less, our family has loved
it. We made a quilt for Kya and then for our daughter, Autumn, when we
adopted her in 2006. Now, we would like to make one for Lily.
The Makings of
Lily's Quilt
Lily's quilt will be made while we wait for her arrival into
our family. This helps prepare for her and gives her a beautiful gift that
we made while we waited for her.
If you would like to contribute to her quilt, here is all
you need to do:
(FIRST) send us (2) 10x10 pieces of material
(usually cotton) Either the same or different material, new or used. (If you
don't want to cut the material, we can do that for you. Just send a swatch
larger than the required size.)
(SECOND) Add, a separate, small piece of the
material(s) attached to a printed note or prayer --(this is your Good Wish
for Lily) Each Good Wish is created uniquely and individually. The notes and
prayers that are sent are placed in a scrapbook for Lily to treasure for
years.
