Travel Day 7

Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - Panda Reserve

It's been a great day. The best so far. Kya has been officially/legally our daughter for 24hrs now. She is finally starting to settle into identifying us as her parents and will now go to both Dale and I. She will sometimes cry if we are not both in site. And, she's intrigued by the hair on Daddy's arms. She actually reached out and touched a few of our travel mates on the bus today. Actually, she strained to reach them. Then she laughed and giggled for a while. it was nice to see that side of her.

We went to be early last night, or Kya and I did, about 7:30. I woke up at 9:30 and ate more pizza and back to bed. Kya woke up around 11 and I gave her a bottle. She woke up at 12, 1 & 2, then slept the rest of the night. Good thing I went to bed at 7:30 because I am not so tired today.

Today Kya allowed me to eat my breakfast. Yayy!!! The stroller is a huge help. She likes it and sits in it while I get ready or while I eat and as long as she can see me and I'm close enough, she's fine. If I get to far, she freaks out. You still cannot touch her face or kiss her. She doesn't like that at all.

We left the hotel around 9am to go to the Panda Reserve. It was so wonderful. We loved it. We took lots of video and lots of pictures. We'll try to upload some today. We actually had our picture taken with a Red Panda, like a large raccoon. I sat in a chair with Kya on one knee, asleep and the draped a blue hospital gown over my lap and gloves on my hands, then sat the Panda on the other knee. Dale stood beside us. Kya woke up and tried to kiss the Panda. It was caught on video. I can't wait to see that because I missed it. We had to pay 50 Yuan, to take a picture with our own camera. But, you can sit as long as you want and take as much video and pictures as you want. It was a little chilly, but not too bad.

We just got back to the hotel. It's around 2pm. We are going to walk the city and go to McDonalds for a late lunch.

Pictures of the city

New buildings and old housing

Lots of bikes and mopeds.

Oh, I also wanted to tell everyone that ALL the Sichuan babies are perfectly healthy. No colds, no rashes, nothing at all. They are all well fed but tiny because they are Chinese, not from under eating. I'm not sure if I told you this before but Kya is teething so she tends to be cranky from time to time. But, she loves her Children's Motrin, so that's a good thing. Other than that, there is no other health updates. Kya cannot stand on her own yet but she can with help and likes to. She can sit up once you sit her up but cannot do that on her own. She can roll over onto her side by herself. Hopefully, we can get her a little stronger soon.

Also, Chengdu is smoggy too but not as bad as Beijing. You cannot taste it on your tongue, so that's been a relief but really we've not been outside as much as in Beijing, so we'll see after our afternoon stroll.

Well, time for lunch and some laundry in the bathtub....
