Day 11
Sunday, November 14, 2004 - Church & Shopping
We went to Church on
Shamian Island today. In Beijing we needed passports to enter the Church but not
here. This service was in both Chinese and English. They would say a verse
in Chinese and then say it in English. The Church was very crowded, no room to
even budge your elbows and people were crowding the doors just to see and hear.
It was all a little too much for Kya so her and I stood outside the doors and
just sang the songs. They were mostly traditional songs. When the sermon begin
we did wonder off around the Church property. I was able to find a little room
that had folding tables set up and were selling books. The ladies running the
store were from the first service that is Chinese only and these ladies spoke no
English at all. We communicated with hands and holding up fingers but that was
not very successful. Eventually I just handed them some money and trusted them
to give me back the proper change. I was so excited to find a great Bible for
Kya. It has the various Bible stories in it. One page has the story in Chinese
and the other page has it in English! After Church we shopped for 2 hours, very
nice area, sort of British (makes sense). Little doors, even I at 5.3 had to duck at
Jennifer's Place. They are nice, Sherry and Jennifer's, but I like Jordan's best
for shopping, no haggle and very inexpensive.
Here's our cute girl
again - and yawning before we even get to Church!

We turned in our
pictures to have some granite etchings completed. This lady is working on our
etchings. We came across her as we were leaving. We'll pick these up tomorrow.

We had Italian tonight
with the other 2 families that live near us. It was a lot of fun and the food
was good. The name of the restaurant was "Italian Restaurant". We
all got a laugh out of the name.
